When the safe won't open
It's a frustrating position to be in. Maybe you've moved into a house in Southborough Common or picked up a property near High Brooms and discovered a safe left behind by the previous owners, combination unknown. Maybe you've simply forgotten the code after not needing it for a couple of years, or the electronic lock has thrown a fault and the display is dead. Sometimes a key safe just seizes with age. Whatever's happened, the contents are stuck and the obvious fixes haven't worked.
This is exactly what we do. Locks Local has been opening safes across Southborough, Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding TN4 area since 2014, and the calls we get are rarely dramatic. They're usually just people in a practical bind who need someone who knows what they're doing.
How we approach the job
Manipulation comes first. On the right safe, a skilled engineer can open the lock without touching the body of the safe at all, leaving everything intact. It takes longer than drilling, but it's worth attempting because the safe comes out of it in perfect condition. We'll always tell you upfront whether manipulation is realistic for your model.
When it isn't, controlled drilling is the answer. This sounds more alarming than it is. Done properly, it's precise and targeted, not destructive. Once we're in, we repair or replace the locking mechanism so the safe is usable again. That matters. A safe with a wrecked lock is just dead weight.
We work on key safes, dial combination safes and electronic safes. Brands we regularly encounter around Southborough and across into Pembury, Speldhurst and Bidborough include Chubb, Burton, Sentry and Yale, among others. If you're not sure what you've got, a photo of the door and the dial or keypad is usually enough to get a sensible estimate over the phone.
One thing worth being clear about: we open safes and repair their locks. We don't supply or install new ones. If you need a safe specified and fitted from scratch, that's a job for a safe supplier, and we'll say so honestly rather than take work we're not set up for.
What to expect on timing and price
For most calls in the Southborough and TN4 area, we can get to you the same day. We'll quote you a labour rate plus estimated parts plus VAT before we leave, so you know what you're agreeing to. Manipulation jobs and drilling jobs carry different rates because the time and skill involved differ. We're upfront about which approach is likely when you call on 01892 575491, and we'll confirm it again once we've had a proper look at the safe.
Bring proof of ownership if the safe came with a property you've bought. It's a straightforward ask and it protects everyone.
